Well this is a little thing I made practising with textures.
![]() Tell me what you think. Bare in mind that I'm only 13 years old and have been doing 3D for a year |

Welcome to the SL forum!
This looks really good. Only two minor crits: 1) The transition between the mountains and the water is a little to sharp. The water should fade into the atmosphere more to make a cleaner trans to the mtns and give it more depth. 2) The water texture looks really good but there are too many straight lines. More polys maybe? Or a higher sub-patch level? Just my $.02. Other than that it looks great.

Here's a tute that shows a good technique for fading into atmosphere. It's the free "Desert Scene" tute on this site:
http://www.simplylightwave.com/movie...tml?tut_id=533 Not exactly what you're doing but the theory should hold.

Thanks biojoe, I appreciate the compliment.
Been using LW for about two years, on and off. I have a day job and a part-time videography gig so I don't have much time for the fun stuff. I'm also learning the Adobe Production Suite now too which will help with finished products. I started with Bryce 5 and Daz Studio. Learned and worked with those for about 6 months, then moved up to LightWave. I've used mostly video tutorials to learn LW. For beginning the learning process I HIGHLY recommend the video training series by Dan Ablan at 3Dgarage.com. I have both the version 8 and version 9 but I think the version 8 courseware is way better than the v9. It's the best bang for the buck tutes in my opinion. About 25 hours worth of tutes that cover most of the basics. After the 3Dgarage stuff I started getting content specific tutes from Simply Lightwave and Kurv Studios. The McLaren tute here is INCREDIBLE! Also, the lighting tutes at Kurv are worth their weight in gold. Improved my renders 10 fold. Hope this helps and happy LW'ing!

The way I use tutes is that I'll follow the tute, then try my hand at my own model, texture, etc. that is similar to the tute to re-inforce the concepts and techniques. At my current skill level it's more like I figure out what I need to do but don't know how, then I find a tute that covers that topic.
