mclaren questions
I made the title broad as i will probably posts a few questions here over time, heh.
anyway, i just started part 3 of the video tutorial for the mclaren, where you start spline patching. To start i could not get it to patch corectly, so after much fiddling i eventually got there, however, i had to change the perpindicular and parralel values around for nearly every section, and most of the polys were upsidedown. anybody have any idea why this might of happened? |

A problem many people have is accidentally duplicating splines. If there is more than 4 or less than 3 splines it won't work. Check the box at the lower left of the interface after you make your selection to verify that only three or four splines are selected. Also, make sure that the points that two splines share are welded.
The parallel and perpindicular numbers are based on the order you select the splines. The first spline selected determines what is parallel and perp. Also the direction you select will define the direction the polys face. I believe if clockwise selection is made then the ploys face away from you... not sure but a quick experiment will show you which is which.

ok thanks for your advice, it worked, it would have been nice if the direction of selection was mentioned in the video even though it was demonstrated that way, heh.
Any idea why some of them are upside down when patching? i have to flip them. |

Yep, as mentioned above, it all depends on the direction in which you make your selection. The face normals always face outwards assuming a clockwise selection - anticlockwise selections will cause the polys to face the other way.
This is made more difficult when spline patching as the direction in which your curves face will also affect the eventual direction of your polygons. |

hi again, having a major problem triyng to patch this area i have followed the video to the word.
there are no unwelded points, there are only 4 spline selected but no matter what i always always get the "curves do not cross correctly" error. i am going nuts here :headbang: |

Hmm ... not sure on this one - you may find that splitting some of the selected curves may overcome the problem - try first off splitting the curve of the wheel arch to only include that piece of the spline you really need for the patch (don't forget to weld the curves back together afterwards)

i found the issue, the spline at the back of the wheel arch was not acctually connected to anything, but i didnt pick this up until i zoomed right in trying to do your suggestion heh.
