Default Modo

I have seen some 3D made in Modo. How is that program (to work with) compared to LightWave?

Very, very, different ... yet at the same time, reassuringly familiar

Seriously, since Modo allows you to completely customise the application layout depending on what task you're currently undertaking you'll find that once you have been using it for a while you'll settle into the workflow that's just right for you.

Also, the addition of the work plane means you can work (almost) completely in the 3D viewport and not have to worry about the orthogonal views as much - it's certainly changed the way I look at and work with 3D for the better.

It's still not quite there as a complete replacement for other high-end 3d tools yet (there are still some stability issues and many features lacking [volumetrics, particles, complex animation tools, skeletons]) but it is still certainly worth a look and hard to beat for modelling and static rendering.

You could always give it a whirl yourself:

I have to agree with Mark for a lot of things - I will still come back to Lightwave every so often since it was the 3D app I started with, but the majority of my modelling these days is all Modo. I found myself getting up to speed a lot quicker with Modo than with other 3D apps since tools were easy enough to find and get to grips with and the tutorials from Luxology are pretty useful for getting you going in the first place. And yes, there is a sort of FPrime equivalent built in as well so you get all the fun of the on the fly rendering without having to shell out for an expensive plugin.
