Default extrude vs shift points

if I create a small cylinder and then select the front face, what is the difference between extrude and move points? They both produce identical looking results

Thanks

If you select the poly and hit extrude, it will create a poly and extend (away from the normal) creating a closed object, if you go in the same direction the object normals the polys will be flipped. Selecting points and hitting "t" will simply move them.
You can also hit "e" for extender plus and get essentially the same thing, Lightwave allows you to work in the way you get comfortable with so there is some redundancy in tools.
