Default Marking Lights

Ok! Here are the stupid Questions! I’m attempting to create marking lights and high thrust impulse engine glow on my Space Ship. Similar lights that you would see on the airplanes or helicopters. And high trust engine glow, like on the Jet fighter when using afterburner. I was using the point lights with Lens Flare on. However: The farther I move the ship from the camera the brighter the glow. Also the lights don’t affect the ship’s hull as they should. I have tried every possible setting to tweak the glow and fall off, but so far I was unsuccessful. I need very detailed explanation pleas. Please for give me for my stupidity. I’m new in Texturing/Lightning.
Thanks for all your help!

use an envelope , e button near the lens flare, then on that timeline set the Intensity (i think is the attribute), lower as it moves away.
