Head Tutorial
on the free head tutorial how do you fill in all the empty space around the extruded surfaces on the 2 seperate axis. what tool is used to connect them or create new points?

i am not sure what u mean? can u word it another way???? the tut isn't finished so are u looking for steps other than what is not in the video. It has been a while since i last watched the tut but i thought it was pretty detailed.... to connect points i use the merge tool i think (Shift+m) or the weld tool (Ctrl+w). i am not sure if that helped but i tried

I really dont know how to explain it but as I was watching it, the eye and mouth was completed and then it popped up with a complete head and I dont know how all those polys came to be.

The complete head is shown in the end of the video just to give you a hint of where you are going, download the rest of the tutorial and it will all become very clear
