Question How to blur a rotor

Hi,

How would one apply motion blur to "only" the rotor of an animated helicopter, ie - not the whole helicopter?.
I can`t find anything in the manual except the camera properties options, the only problem is I can only apply motion blur to the whole object.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks
Andy

Andy,

I'd be tempted to render the rotors of the helicopter in a separate pass and then composite them with the rest of the image.

In the main pass, set the scene as normal, and your rotors to 'unseen by camera'. Render.

Next, set all other objects in the scene to a solid black with a solid black background, and set the camera to the amount of blur you want to capture. Render.

Now, you should be able to composite the rotors over the rest of the scene and voila - motion blurred rotors - sharp scene.

Note that you'll need to save out the alpha information for the rotors in order to comp over the rest of the objects.
