it's cool guys - chill!
I was only havin a laugh with ya's, I know she needs work and to be honest (although petes right about whoring her up) I quite like the eyelashes - the reason I haven't put them on so far isn't because of the way it would affect her appearance but because of the amount of work it would add to the morphs I have set - the deforations would be very tricky. However since it seems to mean so much to you (is this the 3rd or 4th post asking for them to be put on?) I'll give it a go. As far as the dress goes, I was planning on having a patch on the upper front section and stitching up the sides, that should add enough without altering the style or cluttering it. For the record, I don't post here for people to say "cool, that looks great" (I get enough of that elsewhere (j/k)) I do take on board what people say, it's just sometimes the suggested alterations are more trouble that they're worth. You have to keep your eye on the big picture. I'm never going to get a job as a modeller or a texture artist - there are far too many people out there with far more talent. So for me there isn't a great deal of point in me bustin a hump to get things "perfect". I stand a better chance of getting work as a rigger/animator so thats where I want to concentrate my efforts. I do enjoy modelling and texturing and when I'm not working to a deadline I will spend time getting things to look good, but I think we can all agree that 10 weeks is not alot of time to get this all done alone with all the other modules work to go with it, which again I can't take a back seat on if I want to do well. Peter you summed up exzactly what i was sayin, Personality is the most important thing in a character. That we baby, puppy and bird all have bags of exppresion and personality. not only to u get a feeling for what type of mood there is, but u instatly know what there overall demener is. whether their lazy, energetic or a we rockin full of life baby. It all come across. This is what wee as a group have to capture in out animation in out final year. When Me and Peter start getting up our character renders we will hopefully of captured a bit of this. And if not, ill want ideas and your opintions as to how u guys think it can be improved. I guess we will have to wait and see. Who ever captures this vital part of animation will have somthin that will not only be a great pieace for the end of year show but somthin that themselves can be proud of.
I dont know about u guys but i always make my work to please myself, family and friends, i couldnt careless about the marks i get one bit, u just have to look at the overall grades from the classes so far to see the certificate we will get at the end of the year is prob only worth the paper it written on. Your only goin to get a job based on ur portfolio and showreel. And thats 1 of the reasons why i like posting work, i cant spot everything that is wrong in my scene or models, i need other ppl to look at it with fresh eyes that will hopefully spot somthing and help give me inspiration and somtimes even pull me in a totally new and better way of thinking. Thats why i also like to give my option, if it helps make somthin better then great, if not, no harm done.. |

Well thats your opinion and you're entitled to it, but marks do mean alot to me, the animation world is a hard place to cut it, and if i dont make it I want something I can fall back on, a good honours degree will give me that. I don't want to say too much about the overall marks that are being handed out but at the end of the day there are about 5 people consistently scoring well above everyone else and I'd say thats a fair reflection. It doesn't really matter if people that we feel should be failing are scraping passes because they will end up with a 3rd and the group that are scoring high stand a good chance of getting 1sts or at least 2/1's. For most graduate employers a 2/1 is a minimum requirement so....
I think the difference is, whereas you guys are artists and take a creative approach to what you do, I come from a scientific background and take a more technical view of things. Thats where a joint project option would be of benefit to the course I think. |

BTW anyone thats on my course, dunno if you got the email about the school of computing Graduation Ball but I'm thinking of going so if anyone else fancies it gimmie a shout. At the moment it looks like its going to be at the Moat House Hotel in Glasgow and will cost about £40 a head for dinner, wine and music. Should be a laugh if nothing else...

Ok, like I said, since you wanted them so badly here they are in all their glory. Also, I forgot that she's supposed to be just home from school in the animation so I've just slapped her in her school uniform instead of messing about with patterns on the dress...

I dont think Fraser was implying that he has no concern about a 1st Class honours. More the fact that we may leave with a good honours, 1st or 2nd Class however, people who have very little clue about animating also will leave with a first class animation honours. And not that I'm saying well done to them, but it basically makes your honours degree mean F' all..
I havent checked any emails about the ball, I'll talk to you all about it in class. Suzie is looking great. Like the freckles on her face suits her school uniform. How are the eyelashes morphing?

Not sure I like the lashes to be honest, will play about with them before i decide to keep or ditch. It was proving too much of a pain in the arse to attach the lashes to they are morphing just by moving them down and out the same amount as the lids, because morphs are linear they stay matched up with the lids so it's not a problem.
BTW there will bo no-one in our year leaving with a 1st class honours degree that knows very little about animation - to get a 1st class honours degree you have to get an average of over 70% for all your modules including the project, but the project has a heavier weighting than anything else. Last year only 3 people got 1sts as far as I know there may be more this year but not many (hopefully got a fair idea of who those people will be too ) |

jeez. Well I wont be getting a 1st Class. Im not doing enough artworks or Copyright Law module reading yet.
In my opinion eyelashes dont work with little girls. It's a grown up female feature.

Thats pretty much my feeling on it, but because they're detached they'll be pretty simple to take out so I'll wait and see how it looks in the scenes...

Thats the night version of Suzie more or less finished now, just the insane version, the mother and the ornamentation left to model - then I need to start thinking about recording the audio... eeek!
I might have to make sure that Noogles tail is never parallel with the camera for face on shots, could be slightly misconstrued... Last edited by KrisYoung1980; 27-02-2006 at 10:21 PM. |

Thats pretty much all 3 versions of Suzie finished now, I might make a new bloodshot eye texture for the insane one, not sure if its worth the effort as its quite a dark scene and the camera is reasonably far away from her eyes. Time to do the mum... so to speak
You may have noticed I decided to do away with the straight jacket as it seemed like too much work when a hospital gown would do just as well! |

Finished modelling the mother, although she's still to be rigged and textured, starting to loose the will with this project a little, at least in terms of modelling - which is quite good in a way as it means I'm not spending too much time on each object. Really need to work out my timings and put together an animatic to get started on the audio...
