Default Extrude question

Say you create a perfect box. You then extured one side to double its length. All the polys that are extruded from the side poly have flipped normals. Also the originaly poly I extruded from still exists, so when I flip my normals there is a poly in the center which is invisable unless you are on the inside of the box. Is there a way to avoid this besides manually flipping each normal and deleting that center poly?

Yes, use the Bevel tool instead with zero inset.

Sorry but Im very new with this and dont really have anywhere else to go for help. Can you be a little more specific when you say with zero inset?

How can I change this option?

Normally I go to help for this type of stuff but for some reason non of my lightwave helpfiles work. I think it has something to do with using mozilla as a default browser. I can only access them at school and I do most my work at home.

Sure, if you open the numeric panel for the bevel tool, you'll see that there are four numeric fields. The ones you need to be concerned with are the ones labelled Shift and Inset.

Shift allows you to specify the distance that the bevelled polygon will be from its origin (moving along the surface normal).

Inset allows you to specify the relative size of the bevelled polygon.

Therefore, performing a bevel with shift but no inset will give you the same effect as extruding a polygon.
