Question Filling a Volume

Could someone tell me how to show a glass filling with water.
the facet and water source can be invisible, i merely need to show a container go from empty to full.
I'm assuming i would need to use an emitter and maybe add collision properties to it so as to confine the contents to the container... but i may be way off here as i am a bit new to this.
thanks in advance.
Paul
