Default Animation Project: Living Prey

Well after severe harassment from numerous University mates who post here regulary I've finally gave in and decided to do the same.

I'll eventually post a few screen grabs and renders of my scene once I get some. However right now I'm about to start my character creation. So here are a few concepts I made and the elevations I will be using to build the face of a Beast.

If anyone is interested in the story etc just ask and I'll add a summary. I always tend to draw concepts a little more detailed than I make the model so skin/ fleshy textures probably wont be as good textured as I have done in the concepts. We'll have to wait and see.

Thanks guys! It's mostly a texture job (not that I have a clue how to UV...yet), so I'll be keeping the number of polygons farely low so morphing is pretty simple.

John I know you've read this for sure, however just to please Fraser's appetite then I'll post the back story here. It tells you wants going on and why everything is happening, it also leads you up to the point of the animations beginning.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Living Prey
After the people of Green Park were isolated, there was no escape for anyone. Steel gates and stone walls twenty feet high had easily kept the exits of the city for the exceptional only, and even at that you had to be one hell of a known individual. Crams of people were seen ploughing themselves like ants begging to be let free out of the clutches that Green Park had to offer. But the place was contaminated, nobody was going anywhere, even if you were infected or not.

Green Park was a small old town with about a population of fifteen to twenty thousand. Unfortunately no matter how small the numbers were even half a dozen of the crazed population was enough to put terror into everyone. That’s how bad these infections are. Once you had contact with the infected through a cut or other methods you would become just like them. Crazy, insane and violent. That’s what the virus did. Brought out what they had tried so hard to eradicate for years. Unfortunately when the try to find a cure or an aid for aggression, the balance was discovered too, a drug that spurred nothing other than total violent behaviour. Nothing else mattered to them. They just wanted to kill. For the people of Green Park, this was a nightmare come true. Half the population of Green Park had been infected, loved ones turned to enemies just over night. People out on the street having a stroll became their last sane moment. Children who thought their parents were coming home came home not as a parents. A massacre spread over night. A town stained with blood and tears, with nobody coming to their rescue.

Kyle Badelt was someone fortunate enough not to have been infected. He was in right side of town when it hit. Last minute shopping to buy an anniversary gift for his wife. Unfortunately his wife was already prepared, and was at home awaiting his arrival to celebrate their momentous day of marriage. Kyle never got home that day though. His car was heaved off the road by another who was infected. The other driver had the infection kick in while he was on the road, lost control and piled into Kyle. He expected a crowd of people there to help him in the aid of the crash, instead a wild pack of humans, screaming and snarling, killing each other is what he seen. Before second thought Kyle had an old man trying to kill him with his bare hands, trying to choke and bite him. It was luckily enough it was an older man, or he may not have been able to take him down in such sudden notice. He realised the town had gone insane and had taken cover for a day in a newsagents near by. He tried to get in contact his wife. He called the house phone, work phone, her mobile and even text messaged her. No answer, Kyle feared the worst. The radio in the shop filled in the gabs. Explained that the town they lived in had collapsed on itself. It explained that people were killing each other, and that it had become a dog eat dog world out there. As the reported on the radio said, “Kill or be killed”.

Kyle had to move on; he knew nobody was coming to help him. It was every man for himself now. However it was obvious that the greater numbers you were in there would be a better chance of survival, you could all watch out for each other. That was his thinking anyway.

He was leaving the town hall when it happened. He went out the back way, taking the main streets was never a good idea, it seemed to be a battle arena, it’s where many of the infected prowled for their next victims. It was their standoff zone. The best idea was to stay inside as much as possible and to think ahead where the enraged would not go and stay there for a bit, until you had to move. The only bargain people had against the infected was that they would die of hunger. But then they would just feed on each other while the attacks go on. Kyle took the back alleys mostly, while jumping from area to area. He would come across the odd individual, and unfortunately have to kill them. Not always coming out unharmed though, his body would take some beating. His arm had been cut by jumping through a window to escape a pack that had begun to attack each other. Kyle decided to take refuge for one night in an old stone church. This way they couldn’t get in through the windows because they were closed up with bricks. All he had to do was make sure that the church doors were locked. It seemed simple enough.

(In the report I then wrote what happens in the movie, however for the element of surprise I'm not going to explain it.)

I'll post some screens of the church when it's done. Still lighting it.

Looking good mate, just one word of advice at the moment, I know its early days but if you keep an eye on your poly flow now it'll make life alot easier later on, especially when it comes to morphing. The areas around the nose and mouth could probably benefit from some swift spinquad action.

lookin nice peter. See the gaps in the skin at the mouth, are u going to model the inside of the mouth and match up the holes for both bits and weld them at the end ? I do like this skin design u have done, will look cool when his mouth is opening and closing. Will their be added drool ? (lol that would be cool, but a nightmare)

I would like drool etc but its a little too much to considder in time scale that we have. And yeah i modeled the inside of the mouth to follow the outside.

Alright, an update in the character progress. Unfortunately I can't UV the textures, im finding it way too hard, and basically don't think I could pull it off without really reading up on it. Time is slipping away, everyone has their characters done and rigged, so I dont have time to sit back for a fortnight learning UV mapping. Maybe for future projects...
