Hi!
I'm new to this forum, even though I've been digging into a good bit of the tutorials here.
This contest seems interesting.. I like the focus on lighting and mood instead of focusing on modelling and texturing.

I'm not that good at lighting, but that's gonna change soon!

My idea is...
A dark and scary environment with a really disturbing closeup of a really repugnant face.
Concept sketch coming soon!

Hey! thanks for the welcome!

I've changed the concept.
The dark and scary environment will be downtown hell.
And I'm thinking about whether or not to put Mr. Devil in the scene with a wicked grin.

Here's the starting concept for the city:

And the first set of buildings will look something like this:

Of course there's gonna be lots of fire all over the place
And dark stormy weather.

I looked at Wayne Barlowe's art... too scary for me :mg:
Anyway.. a few more concepts...(bear with me I drew these on a notepad with a pen in a moving bus)
I decided to put a statue of the devil in the foreground.
Here's what the statue's gonna look like

And here's a block sketch of the entire scene
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/567...bwsmall2ms.jpg

And... finally some real 3D
Here's the first building in a block scene

I need to fix the horns so they dont look like chilli peppers.

Criticize please

Another building behind the first one.
Plus more reflective blocks and a gradient backdrop!

Hey,
Yea I fould the slanted reflections a little wierd too, but that's caused by the slanted walls of the building. Most of the other buildings should have normal reflections.
Anway, I was trying to get some clouds but its just not working right :headbang: HELP!

Here's what I've got so far:
http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/3...dssmall3cl.jpg

Someone tell me how to fix the clouds

Default nothing wrong with the clouds

the "problem" is the reflection of it on the buildings, causing to dominate entire image.
also being all just red and black colors, adds to confusion in this particular render. where the building ends and the sky begins?
one way to fix this, would be to change the form/density of the clouds, making it nonuniform. btw ... is there a sky(heaven) in hell??? just a thought
another thing that could help, changing the bulding textures. making each different not just in form.
hope i help a bit

I agree with it being hard to see where the sky ends and the buildings start. Maybe the buildings/reflected glass need a slight color shift to help tell them apart. Try like a firey orange for the land/building area...and leave the sky that spooky blood red.

But as for as the clouds...I like what you have already. They look like billowing smoke - which seems appropriate for the location.

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I need to fix the clouds!
But its not working
I want them to look like clouds.. not smoke
And they're only getting worse
http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/296...s2small1qe.jpg

The clouds look like satin now :angery:
sandfish: I tried everything u said.. but it didnt help too much.
Maybe I'll go back to the old smokey if I dont get anything better

As far as the buildings go.. I know they're kinda vanishing into the sky. The textures there are just stand-ins. All of them are gonna change to something much clearer. And it wont be sooo red.

are you using a skydome or textured enviroment or a background image of the 3 i would use a skydome it will spread the texture out more evenly around the buildings...... hope this helps
