![]() ![]() I started this day before yesterday....... comments etc..... but don't worry about smoothing issues, a default surface with 60 smoothing angle is on almost all the model still. Cheers! ![]()

Superb design (as ever!) there. I'm interested though - is that an original Mech design, or is it based on the official FASA designs?

I couldn't recall the designers name before cos I was at work, but I'm at home now! It's by John Wallin ( http://www.johnwallin.net/ )... so no points for me on the design hehehehe
Time for a quick update, I've done a little work on the left hand gun, and some details added along with a bunch of optimised bits from previously show (you'll not notice them really as there was no wire frame before though). ![]() Cheers Craig

I've updated this a little recently, my other thread got stuffed by the temorary demise of LWG.
Anyway, feedback or whatever you feel appropriate please! http://www.f-nine.co.uk/images_proje...ch_wire_01.jpg http://www.f-nine.co.uk/images_projects/mech_gi_01.jpg http://www.f-nine.co.uk/images_proje...ch_wire_02.jpg http://www.f-nine.co.uk/images_projects/mech_gi_02.jpg Cheers Craig

Did you base your design idea off the AH-64 Apache? Looks good.

Thanks guys, appreciate the shout outs
![]() Leovenous, I'd love to say yes and take credit for the design, but that comes courtesy of one John Wallin Liberto. He designed the mech for a speed painting challenge at Sinjin Forums ![]() More soon! Cheers!

Alright, but wouldn't you suppose he used features of the Apache? (not that it's a problem, I think creative variations of real military hardware is a cool thing)
I mean, the angling of the bottom and top half of the "fuselage" being split widths, the two window sets (more like a Russian Hind there) the split sensor system on the nose, the short "wings" for armament. It looks like the first successful breeding of Johnny 5, a Panzer tank, and an apache. --Amazing what comes out of the lab these days. ![]() For my part, I will look twice next time I am going through pictures of military equipment... maybe there are great ideas to be had there. BTW, if it doesn't hurt your render time too much, a little antiailiasing would do your renders a lot of good, or maybe I need to get retinas with a finer dot pitch. Anyway, I'm rambling. |

Yeah, I'm sure he drew some design inpsiriation from the Apache amongst others.
Military hardware is a good source of ideas, I have a sizeable library of military avaitional hardware images for working through ideas and concepts. Not sure about the AA you mention, if you maximise the browser to ensure IE6 isn't sizing down to the visible window area, it should all be nice and smooth. I plan to work more on this model in a the coming week or so, the legs are to be scaled down as they are much longer than they should be. Cheers!

Not to be the devils advocate, but I really like the original proportion of the legs. You're the pro, though, so I expect to be impressed.
So... when do the diffusion and displacments maps come in? ![]() |

Thanks guys!
Mmmmm, mapping, that's a little way of yet, lots of detailing and pnaelling to be modelled first. I think I'll see how the resized legs look, it just seems a little 'lanky' at the moment.... and the feet look bobbins at the moment as well! Cheers!
