more detail in the head with smooth-shifting his mouth, adding teeth and fixing some minor errors. I'll add a tongue in there sometime tomorrrow and then get a UV map started with.

his arms reminds me of gorilla-arms wich i think is a good thing :tup:

I need major help on the UV map. IT's ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!

a small question:
(is it possible to rearrange stuff on the UV map to fit the way u want it?)

yes if it it created well.

try not to use an atlas map, you need to follow the 2nd method of the below link, iv posted this link so many times but its well worth the time to do. took me about 3 hours on my first model (500 poly human male unsubdevided) so this could be difficult to do in the competition time. still take a look as the uv is moved around to suit on this tutorial.

if you feel its too close to deadline to do i would say to do it after the comp

you could try a good way that doesn't leave any texture stretching and doesn't mess up your model at all

well, i've never actually done any proper texturing before, so I stink at all the techniques. And i noticed that a lot of people were doing UV's, so, maybe i should too! Normal textures, procedurals or whatever, wont give me the look that i really want. I was attempting to make it as real as possible, by me. But i have nearly two months to complete this model, which gives me enough time to try different things.

At the moment, i'm making separate Uv's for the toes.

o.k. I've come around making a UV map. This is what it looks like.

(everytime i try to export EPS file, it says "All foreground layers empty. Nothing to Export." Why?)

here's a checkerboard model. Horrible, but i'll go tweaking it later. It's the first model i'm UV mapping. Very hard work!!!

Nice Modeling!

The eps problem, is because you can not have multiple layers! It has to all be in the same layer! If you still have probs, paste the entire model into a new object!

Love the texturing, is he wearing a table cloth lol

i realy advise doing either of those tutorials, you will learn a lot and ENJOY the actual drawing of the uv.


e.g. (mirroring makes life easy.)

* the head should all be joined and flattened
* the arms should be one
* the body should be one
* the leg another
* toes, eyes and other main parts can also be seperate joins

you in effect create little UV maps for each area of the model and arrange them in the uv space. to do this you need to use the morph map tool {W} {T} {M} .

with the map you have created it will take forever to match things up.

First of all Techi, i tried both tuts. I did the morphing and stuff, but it just didn't work out right. The UV that i did above was by following the tutorial that u gave me. Thanks for that. I don't quite understand the other one. I find the unwrapping extremely painstaking. I was just playing around with the second tut for 2 hours, but still didn't understand much. Now all i need to do is to bang my head against a wall and see those tuts again.
