hi guys.. im very new at modeling but am eager to start.. i downloaded the fishy sketch tutorial to try and get the hang of things.. except im a little lost here.. after the back drop is put in the bottom right, and the box is made around the fish body, he adds in some extra segments (by using the arrrow keys) to help you map it out a little later with the fins and stuff.. then he uses some tool to create a segment through the whole thing in the bottow left window.. now i am baffled at what the tool is and where i would find it..
please help out someone ignorant..

It was the Knife tool and you'll find it under the Construct tab.

lol.. okey.. after the first success.. i have downloaded another few tutes and have got to grips with more of the technical sid of things.. .HOWEVER.. (he says) in the fishy tute.. you know the part where he highlights half of it in the bottom left view port and deletes the half.. ? what tool is that please.. and where would i be finding it.. (would really help if he said as he did it.. )

Danny:

Its not really a tool to do that.. all your doing is making sure your in Polly mode and just right click but hold down the right button and lasso the piece you want highlighted.. Then hit Cut or press Delete. And that's all she wrote:-) Hope that helps you out.

Hey thanks Greg.. i was individually selecting the points then deleting them cuz it worked and i couldent be botherd to keep messing up my model and having to reload to try and find the right thing to do.. but thanks for the help and support..

could you maybe tell me the best way to make these indentations as you know im very new so i dont really know the ups and downs.. if its too difficult.. just say dan.. bag it.. and i will.. :o

You could always bool that out. It would be pretty dirty but it would work.
There is also subdivision...

I'd probably use smooth shift. then use weights to sharpen the edges of them up.

I dont think i would smooth shift,,, i would use the knife tool or bandsaw to slice it up a few more then manually tweak it,,, gives the best result i guess.

I believe not very soon because he's finishing up his McLarens tutes. Also he and Peter are collaborating something together, so it might be a while.
