Default July/Aug - Colto - Noob

Hey guys! Long time no see. I am gonna enter another competition! Lighting is by far my worst subject but I am still gonna do my best (and learn alot on the way!) I plan on doing a scene with a little boy standing on a hill at night. He is looking at the sky which is filled with many small meteorites and one HUGE asteroid. I may place other people farther away also looking up. It is the asteroid that will destroy earth. The scientist couldn't do anything to stop it. All there is left to do is wait for it to hit. To loath the end of the earth. To fear.

Concepts coming soon.

OK guys. What is going on? Only 2 entries so far? I know there are plenty of you out there that have the time to do or at least try this challenge. I think what is happening is people see that the challenge involves lighting and they think they are not going to be able to create an entry good enough to win a prize. Well guess what? These challenges were instituted to help YOU learn! When you see a challenge that is judged on something you aren't very good at you should be thrilled. It is the perfect time for us to learn and grow in this subject. It is the most opportune time for you to ask questions and get help. So what if you don't win the challenge. The important thing is that you learned something and that you will be more prepared for the next challenge. Nobody here just starts up and wins challenges, you gotta work for it. If you think you dont have the time to enter the challenge consider this. All you really need is 10 minutes a day. Now most everyone here should have 10 minutes a day. 10 minutes is all you need to get a little bit more of scene done. Even ten minutes a day from now on will give you almost 9 hours of work. That is plenty of time to improve. So I challenge you now. Just give us at least 10 minutes of your time a day (hopefully even more!) and work on an entry. I think you may be surprised to see what you are capable of producing. Good Luck to you all and I hope I see more of you around soon!

I wasn't planning on entering, but the way you put it, maybe I should....

Now all I need is an idea....hmm.....

well my first attempt at making a human head this week looked a bit like an alien, that was kinda scary...:mg: :lmao:

Wow colto, nice speech. I had an impression similer in my mind. But u put it to words. Its about learning. Thats what its about. And if we win something at the end, well then its all good. Makes sence. 10 minutes each day will make up nine hours. Clever thinking dude!
And I know im a noob, and sometime i set myself unreachable goals. So take it easy noobs, do what u're confortable with. If u push urself to hard u might just muck it up. But also try to better yourself too.
Im in! Thou, not at SLightwave, and hopefully i'll give it more than 10 minutes a day!
And priimate u should enter, u did so well last compition. I learned so much just from looking at your previous work. I liked it alot. Well done! And u ended up with the prize! U damn deserved it aswell for such an exquisite picture.
Nway enough of that.. this is your thread colto, your idea sounds really good. Looking forward to seeing some pictures soon.
Best of luck to u man!

Wow! I went on vacation for a week and when I came back I saw all these entries! Wonderful!:attn: It is good to see so many of you willing to learn. I don't know whether it was my post or something else that got you here. Either way it's cool to see everyone joining in the action.

I will be starting on my project tomorrow. Wish me Luck!

OK I am slightly altering my idea. Instead of showing the kid on the hill I will show him inside a room stading up close to the window and he is crying. The camera is on the other side of the window and you can clearly see the meteor coming and the damage it has already caused from the reflection on the glass.

Good luck Colto !

For me it was your speech that made me enter...I'm not counting on winning, and for the entries...WOW what a list...

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been around. My computer has been down for over a week and my ISP has been upgrading so we have had constant internet shortages. But I should be back now. Over the past week I have tried to creat my scene to no avail. I wasn't able to properly create a window AND a reflection that showed the comet. So I have modified my idea some. Instead of a comet I am going to have an alien race invading earth. The shot will show a group of people running down a street towards the camera and away from the large alien ship/machine behind them. It is dark and the alien machine has fired upon the group of people. The scene will be in mid-blast of the explosion. This will make the explosion be the main source of light in the scene. There will be destroyed buildings all around and some people being hit by the machine's laser with debris flying around. Sounds complicated but it isn't too ambitious. Updates coming soon.
