Default Two halves don't make a whole!

Can someone please help me out of a rather tricky (for me anyway)situation.
In the Strat tut, when I separated the top and bottom halves of the body I neglected to make the cut at 0 on the y axis.Unsurprisingly, I am now having difficulty rejoining both halves. They are positioned exactly in every other respect (x & z axis) - I just have a gap which I've tried losing using the move tool constrained to the y axis, but so far no luck when it comes to merging.
Can someone please suggest a practical technique for accomplishing my goal??
I await in hope.........

It's ok,I welded each pair of points and happily it all turned out fine.

if you have a gap, just select the point closest to the y=0 and hit the 'v' key. This will allow you to specify 0 as the value and all selected points will be moved to 0.

you can also select polys on the upper body just above 0 and the lower body, just below 0, and apply the bridge tool which will as it says 'bridge' the gap.

this is not good on very complex objects as it adds a whole new load of polys.

Thanks for replying - that's actually more the sort of answer I was hoping for - a simple technique to align multiple points and/or polys.
My weld attempt was futile in the end.I've discovered that there's really no substitute for correctly aligned geometry, and in the interests of developing useful modelling skills I started over (again!!)
This time everything appears to have gone very well and I'm thoroughly enjoying the feeling of satisfaction at seeing an error-free render. It'll be some time before I can readily apply the principles of correct geometry placement without closely analysing the invaluable examples contained in the marvellous video tutorials though....
