Robot/Machine Rig
Hi....
I'm building a mech (can't say exactly what, yet :headbang: ) and I was wondering... From your vast experience with animating robots and machines with rigid moving parts... :bow: what is the best way to rig them? I mean, can you just have the moving body parts in different layers and set the pivot points to where you need them or is it better to bone the moving parts and have all of them in one layer? Any reply appreciated

In my opinion, having the parts you will animate seperately in different layers with pivots set is the way to go. If the mech has any displaceable parts, i.e. Robbie the Robot's tubular arms, then use bone tools as they are for deformation. If the mech has only solid parts then seperate layers and IK chains are the way to go.
