If you look at some of the animations and movies that have been produced using lightwave, anything is possible, the only limitation would of course be the skill level of the user...
If you want to learn animation, maybe you should look at going through some of the aimation tutorials that are offered on this site, else get hold of Jonny Gordens excellent books on cartoon character creation- that will teach you quite a lot about rigging, skelegons or bones and voice sync... once youve gone through some of those you should be able to wax that project... for the shading you can use the cell shaders to get that hand drawn look & feel... and particles to get the sword fragments... |

hehe yeah i know its some sort of stupid to try somethign "big" witout knowing some basics xD
well i dont wanna use cell shading or anyting. the model is shaded on a normal way as will be the blade. the thing i cant figure out is how to make the blade start glow and then scatter from top to bottom and make the parts scatter even more xD i was thinking about doing it with a Wind emitter thats works like a vortex or something. have to find out how to do that and well for the glowing.. i have NO ideda xD bet its not that hard xD |

I think its great to start with something that challenges you, thats the only way you will grow, and I know for myself that hard is the only thing that keeps my attention...

for the glow effect do this
in your surface editor go to the advanced tab- there you can specify a glow intensity (need not be restricted to 100%, but can use 300 or even more if you want), then in windows/image processing (V9) or Effects/processing( earlier versions) you must check the enable glow check box-and there you will have some really nice looking glow |

there should be an envelpe next to the glow intensity edit box- a button marked E- that allows you to change the intensity over a period of time

ah thnx xD
and learned something new again xD i was always wondering what this E thingy is good forxD well no comes the hard part the scattering... should i just make the blade out of multiple parts and then use a wind emitter to scatter them or what other way is there?for the poly parts i think the prob is to make them scatter from top to bottom like in the gif. guess thats also nat that eay with other things <_> |

what might work is this...
to run a cone object through your sword ie... use a plugin like crackit or c4 to break your sword into little pieces in modeler, so that when the cone runs through it, it will shatter. send the sword to layout... go to properties dynamics and add a hard body dynamic to the sword Create a cone that points down, also send it to layout- position it above the sword- in properties/dynamics- assign fx-collision to the cone. make the cone invisible to the camera in properties/ render/ unseen by camera... run it through the sword- this should get your sword to break in the same kind of way as the sword in the gif just mess around with the settings, maybe put some wind in to get the pieces to blow around... try it out, let me no how it goes |

hehe thx.
well i made it a bit different. since the blade is curved its a bit hard to make the cone come down so tey all split the same way. i may try it again though. soo i just made my wind emitter, set it to vortex and let it go through the blade with a smaller scaling so i get the effect like in the giff, when it reaches the bottom i scaled it a lot so the blade scatter faster like in the gif. its not perfect now just a little try but i already like how it looks so far check the link . oh and sorry its so low quali but the avi was too big to upload as attachment >_> http://img172.imageshack.us/my.php?image=scatterby3.swf |

hehe i willl ^^
i was thinking of maybe adding a bit motion blur and see how it looks then . hm i gave to get smaller pieces aswell. reight now i used 3 blades that were scattered. since my lw always seems to mess with me if i try higher vlues in C4:destruct |
