Default Layers in LightWave 7.5

Hey, guy's remember I asked about creating a terrain, well I created the ocean, now I am cluless as to how I am going to create the mountains.

Details:

I would like to add mountains where the water lines meet so the view is like from the ocean you looking towards the land hence seeing the mountains.

best way I could describe.

Question: How can make the mountains and the ocean in the same scene? I assume I would use layers so to keep the objects seperate. BTW I used the ocean tute. very helpful..

thank you

Well, layers is one way to go if you want the entire terrain and water to be a single object in your final scene.

Otherwise, you could model the mountains/cliffs as separate objects. That way, you can always use the cliffs again in another scene.

So are you saying that if I use layers, I wont be able to use the mountains in other scenes? I am confused. Layers just seperate each item correct; so if I just want to towrk with the ocean I can.

Is it easier to use layers or just model mountain and ocean in the same layer?

The separation of layers within objects comes into its own when loading the item into layout really.

It works in this manner:

Items in the same layer of the same object are treated in layout as a single entity, so all translation/deformation tools will work on everything within that object layer.

Items in different layers of the same object are treated as separate entites within layout. However, all object properties defined within modeller (such as your layer heirarchy) are preserved and loaded in with the object.

Items in separate objects are entirely separate and have no inter-relationship within layout.

Default Layers; Ocean/mountain

I am using this great book as a guide. Though it is moving a bit too slow. I have used point to create the hull of a boat.. just to get some practice. I am not sure how to include a mountain in my existing water scene. I can picture how it would look, but I am unsure how to place it it's position. I am suppose to create the mountain and then import it into the water scene? Could I just use a image of a mountain import it into the water scene making it look like it was actually created? How do I start, where do I start? Help Help... Far Cry lol

thank you for any imput.. Please I am a newbie go easy.. I have a book so I can refference it. You don't have to diaper me.. I know some just help me over the hill
